Nov 30 Entrance Slip - TPI

Above is a screenshot of my TPI results.

I find it interesting that the biggest differences between my strong categories and weak categories are mainly cause by a discrepancy in action points. Therefore, these are things that could be changed in practice without altering my fundamental beliefs about teaching. I wonder if the social reform and nurture categories have lower action scores (and also a lower intention score in the case of social reform) because I am a bit cautious and focused mainly on the curriculum right now, being a new teacher. Perhaps these categories will rise up with time.

A question that this survey leads me to think about is whether teachers generally become more or less concerned with / focused on social reform in their teaching over the course of their career. Another question that came to me was whether or not TC's have higher intention scores than experienced, "realist" teachers, or if more experienced teachers have similar intention scores but higher action scores (ie. get their actions to meet their intentions over time).

  1. Interesting thoughts about the ways that teachers develop! I think you'll find that the nurturing perspective is predominant for many teacher candidates, so you might find yourself coming from a slightly different place than some of your classmates. I've also seen you working with social and environmental justice in your planning already, so of course such self-tests must be taken with a grain of salt! Nevertheless, it's interesting to see what they suggest.
